Matt’s Final Wishes

Category

*Please read in full – as per Matt’s wishes there will not be a traditional funeral *

It was Matt’s wish to donate his body for medical science in the hope that in some small way his death would contribute to helping others diagnosed with similar conditions. To facilitate that, the family had contacted the London Anatomy Office (LAO) and completed the appropriate paperwork with Matt’s consent.

Unfortunately, due to the effect of the cancer on Matt’s body the LAO was not able to accept him as a candidate for donation. Therefore, the family have arranged for an unattended cremation to take place instead.

After cremation, Matt requested that his ashes should be scattered in Wanstead Park by immediate family and his best friend, Spencer Hamp. Matt rediscovered an appreciation for Wanstead Park during Covid-19 lockdown. Once this is completed then we will make the location known to friends so that should they wish to then they will have the opportunity to visit the spot as a mark of remembrance.

Matt was never especially fond of large scale social gatherings where there wasn’t the opportunity to talk intimately one to one or in small groups. Therefore, it was his wish that rather than having a conventional funeral, that his friends should instead be given the opportunity to meet different family members in small groups in order to be able to share their fond memories of him.

The family will make arrangements to facilitate this after his ashes have been scattered in spring next year.
